Album Notes
J. MARTY COPE, organist

The pipe organ at Calvary Church contains over ten thousand "voices" which attempt to fulfill the desire of the hymn writer, Johann Mentzer: "O that I had a thousand voices, And with a thousand tongues could tell, Of Him in Whom the earth rejoices, Who all things wisely does and well! My grateful heart would then be free, To tell what God has done for me."

As a boy, J. MARTY COPE sat in awe of the pipe organ and organist in his grandparents’ church. The colorful, enthusiastic playing and the energized congregational song united to light in him a fire of excitement and an enduring interest in organ music. J. Marty has studied under Dan Miller, Devon Hollingsworth, Paul Manz, William Bates, John Ferguson, Marilyn Keiser, and Larry Smith.

From 1999 through 2001, J. Marty served as organist at Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina where he administered the Tenth Anniversary Series, celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the Calvary Grand Organ installation.

He then attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota where he studied organ, voice, church music, and conducting and sang in the acclaimed St. Olaf Choir. Later, he completed graduate studies in organ performance and choral conducting at Indiana University. Currently J. Marty serves on the music staff at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX.

In playing, J. Marty desires to create excitement for the listener, making the organ accessible to the layperson. He gratefully acknowledges the Source of his gifts and dedicates them to the glory of his Redeemer.

TIM ZIMMERMAN and the KING'S BRASS provide a creative approach to worship for young and old alike through the "best in sacred brass music." By teaming together, these Christian professionals from around the United States perform their original arrangements as heard on eight recordings. For more than twenty years, the King's Brass has performed over one hundred concerts each season with three trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, keyboards, and percussion. Playing a wide variety of music from Gabrieli to hymn classics, from Handel to jazz spirituals, from Christmas carols to patriotic marches, The King's Brass uses all corners of the concert hall to lift hearts and spirits in praise. www.kingsbrass.org

Great sounds
We got this CD as a birthday present for our daughter who was at Sound Foundations with J. Marty Cope. She loves it. Thanks so much.

This is a great album
I am not usually a big fan of organ music. The reason is that it sometimes seems lifeless to me and like the instrument slogs through whatever piece is being played. "A Thousand Voices" is different. In this album, J. Marty Cope combines technical expertise with some creatively arranged pieces to produce a finished product that stirs the emotions and brings the organ to life in way that few can. I look forward to seeing more of Mr. Cope's work.

J. Marty brings the organ into the average listener's realm of enjoyment without losing the grand reverence and awe of the instrument or the music. I've never found a CD of the "king of instruments" that die-hard musicians and average joe's alike could enjoy until I found this one. there is excellence in every note! Every one that I've given it to comes back to me to tell me how they can't seem to get enough of the CD! Great selection of pieces. The brass is the crowing touch (not that it needs one).

This is a CD that you'll want to listen to on Sunday mornings as you prepare for worsip services! It puts me in a fabulous mood. Mr.Cope is an excellent organist and imparts true electricity through the instrument! Buy it! you won't be disappointed.

an awsome treat for Organ music lovers
This has to be one of the greatest recordings for the pipe organ I have had the pleasure to enjoy. A must have CD for organ music lovers.

A Thousand Manificant Voices!
It was a pleasure to meet you in 2005 at the Calvary Church. I just wished i had the CD then to ask for your autograph. You are truly and excellent organist!!! Are any of the pieces played published?

Rev. Ronald J. Potter

This instrument is incredable. My wife and I had a tour of the Mohler Organ Company at the time they were building this, and were truly impressed. This is the fourth CD we have of the organ, and hope there will be more.

J. Marty Cope did some great finger work on the Calvery organ! I'm just amazed when an organist can do anything as far as a variety of playing styles, sounds, etc, and he sure does a fantastic job with the music on this Cd. He is truly a fine performer. I also look forward to hearing more of his works.

Excellent compilation on one of the nation's finest organs by an exceptional organist. A must have for the pipe organ listener.
