ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jack Mittleman’s anticipated new album ‘English River’ is a collection of songs that span orchestral pop, guitar driven rock and sweeping widescreen ballads, emphasizing the ambition of the album to take us on a musical journey. Jack has been inspired by the timeless album tradition that grew from the musical climate of the late Sixties and Seventies.

‘English River’ was recorded in Hawaii, Stockholm and London. The album was mastered by Steve Rooke at Abbey Road Studios. Along with top Swedish musical talent, the album also features contributions by renowned artists such as Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson Band, The Beach Boys) and Eric Bazilian (The Hooters) among many others.

The album’s first single, ‘Not the One’, is written in collaboration with British songwriter Chad Neale. It’s a classic pop song with an infectiously catchy refrain. The single is already playing on select American radio stations.

Jack Mittleman, a native Montrealer, grew up not only on the great pop songs of the 60s and 70s, but also on the classics. His mother was a pianist, his father an opera singer; his older sisters collection of contemporary vinyl rounded out the mix.

In the fall of 1986, Jack moved to London. There, he honed his performing skills by traveling Europe as a street musician. Playing for large audiences, Jack quickly developed a keen sense of what it takes to be a great performer.

In 1996 Jack, with Swedish recording artists Irma Schultz produced the Joni Mitchell tribute album, ‘A Bird that Whistles’ for EMI Sweden, winning raves from Joni herself.

Jack moved to New York in 1997 to pursue his music career and soon found himself performing sets of original music at established clubs such as The Bitter End, The Mercury Lounge, and CBGB’s.

During the spring of 1998, Jack opened for the British Rock Symphony with Leslie West, Peter Frampton and Zach Starkey when they performed at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan.

May, 2006, Mittleman was the musical director for ‘A Tribute to Led Zeppelin’ in Stockholm, Sweden at the prestigious Polar Music Prize. The legendary British rock quartet attended the performance which was praised by Jimmy Page for honouring their music with respect.

Two years later, on February 5, 2008, Mittleman put together ‘An Evening with the Music of John Lennon’. Three historical concerts held in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Olso. Guest artists were Alan White (Plastic Ono Band), Klaus Voormann (Plastic Ono Band), Eric Bazilian (The Hooters), Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper), jazz vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy and many more.

In 2009, Jack released his debut album ‘Ashen Grey’ which was very well received by fans and critics alike. German artist Klaus Voormann who designed the album cover for The Beatles ‘Revolver’ drew the art-work for ‘Ashen Grey’.
