Infinite Article

Album Notes
Infinite Article
Robert Horton and Edward Guerriero emerged as performing musicians in the first wave of the early American punk scene (1979-1981). By the time they met in the Bay Area in 1988, they had wandered into more experimental sonic landscapes and began to record music together. Many years into their creative friendship the Infinite Article music project was born from a primary challenge: how to make music together when Edward performed primarily as a vocalist and Robert did not like music that featured vocals. They agreed to produce (and radically reconfigure) a collection of mutually agreeable cover songs: compositions by John Martyn, Young Marble Giants, Pearls Before Swine, Moondog, and Neil Young. A secondary challenge was that they now lived in two different cities (Horton in the East Bay and Guerriero in Seattle). Over a period of eight years Infinite Article came together twice a year and musically improvised a sonic foundation for the songs. The vocals, composed elements, and instrumental adornments were added to the improvised foundation. Several original compositions emerged to accompany the agreed upon cover songs. The end result is an electro-acoustic mosaic of aching melodies and defamiliarizing baroque arrangements, a wedding of the familiar and strange. The emotional tonality of Infinite Article reflects the raw and haunted psychic landscape that both artists shared throughout the duration of the project.
