Album Notes
Lush atmosheres, infectious melodies, complex arrangments and driving anthems. The Illustrated Band combines spacey dreamscapes, progressive rock and pop, to create a unique yet highly palatable sound. Thought provoking lyrics and creativity over formula makes The Illustrated Band a true experience for the music lover.

The bands' founders (Michael Blake-guitarist, singer/songwriter, and drummer-Paul Roraback) began writing songs together in their hometown of Seattle where they recorded the bands' first album under the name Gideon's Press, before relocating to Austin where the band was completed by bassist David Kline and keyboardist Nic Whitworth. Their new album, "The Forever of Now" is a diverse collection of songs, ranging from the soaring pop melodies of "Mother's Arms", to the highly complex epic, "Whirling Dervish", making it a "must hear" album in 2005.

Just another run of the mill "made by musical geniuses" album
Fantastic album. The lyrics, music, tone, and overall feel of the ablum exceeds what I desired. As a plus, even the gals in my life enjoyed it; and that's always a plus. No "can you turn that down?" requests; but instead "this is a good song" comments.

What an awesome follow up!
I first heard of this band when they were known as "Gideon's Press". I was then sad to hear I would probably never see another cd from them. I saw a review on another well known site that they were now called "The Illustrated Band", and without hesitation came to CDBaby and bought it within seconds. I was not dissappointed and look forward to more (I HOPE!!!)
Thanks guys for not stopping!

****and by the way CDBaby was so great as well, super friendly and super fast. Never think twice when buying from here****

Great all-around rock album with progressive rock influence
The Illustrated Band has a unique sound, and it really comes through on this disc. This is a great straight-ahead pop rock record with elements of progressive rock thrown in for added complexity, but without a lot of unwarranted noodling.

The album is not quite as gripping as the band's first release, "Bound for Ninevah," which they released under the name Gideon's Press. However, this is an excellent followup record with a more mature sound.

The production on this disc is incredible. The instrumentation is very well balanced, and each instrument shines through very well.

This is one of my favorite albums in recent years, and I highly recommend it.

#1 CD for 2005 by and I agree!
I love the tunes, tones, tempo, and timing in the music of this CD. Incredibly fun to listen to and wonderful lyrics to accompany the music. rated this CD #1 in the top 10 CDs for 2005. Contenders in the top 10 included the new CDs from Coldplay, Switchfoot, Jack Johnson, Pat Metheny, David Crowder, Nickel Creek, David Gray, Juliana Theory, and Alternate Routes. If you know just a few of these artists/CDs, you can understand that this must be quite a CD to have been the #1 pick for the year. You must hear it!!!

Best Music I've heard this year!
As a semi-pro musician I hear alot of music and have to learn alot more. This CD is the best I have heard this year. It is so hard to write music that is both interesting musically but listenable. When musicians start getting technical they usually get gymnastically mechanical. These are great songs! I guess it doesn't get any better than that. My Highest Rating!

Brilliant !!!
This cd is powerful yet refined, the musicians are technically brilliant and precise, the songs have beautiful melodies, the lyrics are meaningful and uplifting, and the vocals are top notch. Tight, tight interplay between the musicians. Maybe a sort of Dream Theater meets YES. I've worn out my first copy of the cd and have purchased two more, one to play and one for my archives, as I do not want to face life without this music should it ever go out of print. I've owned it for almost two years, listened to it continuously, and have not grown tired of it. It is the best cd in my collection of about a thousand cd's.

More great pop/prog
Well, not a whole lot to say that hasn't been covered. This band does pop/rock with an obvious prog influence, and they do it very well- criminally underexposed, but a very good band. Buy this, and get their debut, under the band name Gideon's Press called "Bound for Nineveh"- also a great disc- and, despite the fact that they are not terribly well known, the recording/production quality of both discs is top notch.

they will always be one of my favorites

What can I say? First time buyer from this website, and first time listener to The Illustrated Band (via Delicious Agony Prog Rock Radio). Loved them instantly! Great music, melodic and absorbing, and good service from CD Baby.
