After listening to the two mp3’s on the hotels website I was hooked. Imagine my surprise when I could not find any reference to this album nor anywhere to buy
In the UK. Anyway after tracking it down on cdbaby I got hold of this album.

I was a little disappointed as the other songs didn’t have the immediate hit like Atlantic. Still I love the mix of indie guitar and electro, in fact I get reminded of Warm Leatherette by the Normal, but this is no bad thing because they add a certain something to the new nu wave music that sets them apart from the copyists. Oh, and these songs will be in your head longer than their contemporaries.

Time Out New York

Hotels fuse elements of new wave, goth, and surf so seamlessly
that genre tags will be the last thing on your mind when you
hear their bittersweet, atmospheric pop songs.

Anabel Suicide

I found these guys accidentally at a bar in Brooklyn. After two shots and a couple of beers they still had my attention... It isn’t often that I like bands that wear matching outfits, but they’re tighter than a six year old girlie’s you know what. Atlantic is by far my favorite track off the album. It’s the surf rock guitar that comes along in the middle of this song that just knocked my f***ing socks off. That and the melodic droning of the keyboard. I love the sh** out of it.

Instant relief - of course - is provided by surprisingly good acts like Hotels. A band that will inspire those of you into sophisticated songwriting that also focuses on texture and arrangements. An emotionally detached voice tells you something in a casual way, while the up-tempo pop arrangement develops
through catchy keyboards and tiny guitars with a surf edge. Between The Magnetic Fields and Stereolab.
