Album Notes
I walk in me garage.I stick a banister rail from B&Q into a rusty old tin.I stretch three strings across it.I tape a cheap pickup into it.It takes three hours to make but would take anyone who knew what they were doing half that.If someone had've walked in that afternoon and told me I'd be playing that banister rail/tin box guitar at the 100 club nine months later, I'd have said, "You're nuts-anyway, what you doing in me garage?"
I smash a bottle to make a slide.I slip a chicken wishbone under the strings to bring the tuning up to open A.I plug into a little practice amp.Sounds good.I write a short tune and play it into a webcam.I need a name-I have no large intestine,so I call myself Hollowbelly.I put it on youtube.I think everyone will hate it.They like it.I write another, then another. It sounds like punk.It sounds like blues.Punkblues.
A promoter from NotTheSameOldBluesCrap rings me from London-says he wants me to play a gig.I say I can't 'cos I need to practice. He says he'll ring back in a month or two.He rings back,
"Can you play next Thursday?"
"erm, ok..where is it?"
I think he's gonna say 'in the backroom of the Red Lion in Dicksplash-Upon-Sea', but he doesn't.He says "The 100 Club."
"Thee 100 Club??!"
He's laughing,"Well if you're going to debut it might as well be there."
So here I am, walking down the back stairs of the 100 Club. The first thing you see are black and white photo's on the walls of people playing there-Sex Pistols,Rolling Stones,Muddy Waters,The Damned...not too intimidating for some Northern bloke carrying a banister rail guitar.
The place fills.DJ Cushley spins groovy tuneage.I sit with clenched fists punching me own legs.I'm psyched.Raye the sound dude's walking over and saying "You ready?"
I'm ready...

If Robert Johnson's granddad had an amp, this'd be what he'd sound like. I'm looking forward to a higher-fi recording of this lo-fi music, but a helluva debut album. I spend a lot of time on youtube listening to the other stuff Hollowbelly has... PLEEEASE make the second album soon! This is just what the blues scene needed. The quality of the songwriting is shockingly good - blues you can use. Five stars and best wishes! Come to Denmark soon, eh? It's only two hours away....

Wow,this is what it sez..on the tin..Lo-Fi UK Bluespunk !!
You won't sit still listening to this,so damn raw and honest set which we are lucky to get to play on our stereo players & you'll be down the hardware store buying the bits 'n' pieces to knock up yo' own guitar, the next day,I promise you..c'mon, could anything be more punk than this...english punk blues that is steeped in the rawness of the old southern one string musicians of the deep south all mixed up with the Ramones breakneck tempo....the set was recorded when supporting Bob Log & he loved Hollowbelly's playing (not a bad recommendation, pretty cool ha!!!) please buy it..cheap too like Hollowbelly's guitar..you'll love it !!

often times i get amped up for the release of an album only to be disappointed when i finally hear the material. not this time. i've waited a while for this release and it was well worth the wait. hollowbelly proves that you don't need any hi-tech devices or backing band. when the song is great and the execution even better you can't go wrong, no matter how simple the arrangement or instrumentation.

here is hollowbelly, no over-dubs, fixes, edits. just the man and his mouth, hands, feet and a mountain of energy. you can feel he's in it just for the tunes and he puts everything into them. there's not a clunker in the bunch.

hollowbelly will probably never get the recognition he deserves. his natural ability to match clever hooks with primitive blues makes for a timeless sound, that is easy to appreciate. is there a place in today's pop culture for a guy with a stick and tin with some strings stretched over them? we'll have to wait and see...
