Album Notes
Hired Gun is a Jersey born emcee representing the borough of Brooklyn since 2000. An educator, writer, emcee and event organizer, Hired Gun is a man who wears many hats within this hip hop culture. A member of the ESP massif since 1996, "HG" continues to collaborate with Mista Mayday as an emcee with Frequency Activism. In addition HG is a co-founder of Say Word Entertainment, a new york based Hip Hop event company, and one third of the group 3rd Party.Hired Gun also works as a solo artist, and is a after school mentor/teaching artist for UrbanArtBeat (www.urbanartbeat.org) and Urban Arts Partnership (www.urbanarts.org). Gun is a child of the golden era, and his socio-political commentary, dense lyricism and high energy performance are a reflection of that.

Hired Gun has performed all over the country doing both hip hop and drum bass as far west as Minnesota, as north as Vermont and as south as Virginia. Hired Gun has been blessed to share the stage with such legends as the Last Poets, Fat Lip of the Pharcyde, Rob Swift, and Slick Rick. If you're in need of music with meaning, high energy, and positivity...and you can find him (which isn't hard) maybe you can book..the Hired Gun.

The People's Verses
On occasion, "The People's Verses" evoked other modern hip-hop like Dälek and Busdriver, but mostly it stands on it's own. Positive yet critical, Hired Gun combines smart lyrical flow with a beat which makes your ears stand up and notice.

The People\'s Verses
I think that CDBaby\'s \"Recommended if you like: De La Soul, KRS-One\" is right on target for this album. Give the track 7 clip (Unforgiveable Blackness) on your left a click for a sample of why this album is worth picking up: fresh beats coupled with thoughtful, relevant, and socially conscious lyrics. I am excited to have discovered a contemporary hip-hop album with this much lyrical substance. Highest recommendation.

The Truth
I knew a lot of these tracks before the album dropped, so I didn't think the album would exceed my expectations by much, as I should have an idea what it would sound like as a whole. This wasn't the case. The quality of this album, lyrics, production, post-production, is superb. Truly a professional sounding work. Hired Gun has arrived.

The People's Verses
Awesome! Looking forward to hearing more from you!

not an urban alternative, but an urban imperative...
in essence, Hired Gun is a true school MC: a new school head with old school ethics constantly seeking out next school possibilities. in today's oversaturated hip-hop market, disposable words get in the way of too many instrumentals. on The People's Verses, you appreciate Gun's vocal presence and yearn for more. fourteen tracks offer different facets of blackness, from the everyday struggles of "Dedication" and "Maintain" and the observations of urban decay in "Dead City" to the voice of dissent in "Arrest the President" and the vulnerability and tenderness of "K.A.L.I." with tight production by the likes of Mista Mayday, Zaquan, Tranquill, Core Rhythm and others, Hired Gun's present-day boom bap feels like the best of the genre's offerings from the late '80s / early '90s, but remains rooted in the here and now. at one point during the album, he asks, "Hip-hop is heartbroken: who will save the soul?" while it's foolish to suggest that one album can resurrect the genre, it should be noted that The People's Verses creates opportunities for dialogue with honest critique and a spirit to persevere in the face of all that says, "who cares?" this is beats, rhymes, and life for the everyman/woman in all of us.

A Testiment to True Hip-hop
In a society now filled with watered down, half-ass excuses for hip hop that are overly popularized by the media, Hired Gun\'s music sticks out like a sore thumb above the rest. With solid beats, catching melodies, and genius lyrics, Hired Gun not only expresses raw human emotion, but captures and portrays the life of a true revolutionist in today\'s society.

I highly recommend it, but only if you have a competent understanding of current events, otherwise it\'d be wasted on you. Positively one of the best musical investments I\'ve ever made.

The People's Verses
I would like to echo the eloquent reviews already posted (particularly since my comments would certainly be less eloquent) and just add that the album is a coherent commentary on life and current affairs without sacrificing the beat.
