HY Time- get it and have the time of your life!
For most true blue Chris Isaak fans you know that the word "Silvertone" is not just the name of Chris's first album, it is also the name of his amazing band of 25 some odd years. One thing Mr. Isaak knew from early on is if you want to be great, surround yourself with as much talent as you can. If you are just a casual Chris Isaak fan first of all you might not know when you say his name you should silently say "and Silvertone" after it (sorry Chris, give credit where credit it due), hell you might even spell his name as Issak.

If you are one of the "lucky" few that know this musical gem of knowledge then the completely unrock and roll sounding name of Hershel Yatovitz has rolled off your tongue for years and sounds completely normal to you after saying it for 14 plus years. If not be prepared, because what most people might not realize is that on what some consider to be Chris Isaak's "breakout" album- "Fovever Blue" that is Hershel pulling you into those songs with that wonderful way he has on the whammy bar, you don't even hear Chris's voice until sometimes 25 seconds into the song, yet you have been hooked since that first note haven't you?

HYTime, Hershel's first solo album is a wonderful little surprise package that for me was rolled up in something I already knew I liked. He made the album his own yet every once in awhile threw a little of that Silvertone flavor in so you remembered just where he came from. From the first song I thought, "yeah he isn't going to take me long to get me to like this" until "Loralu" which after hearing basically made me put the album on pause so I could rock out to it about ten more times before moving on (might be because of how much it sounds like a nickname for me or because it somehow reminds me of so many Chris Isaak songs I rock out to, I have no idea how because Hershel might make you dance like you are listening to a CI song, but he OWNS this one, it is not at all like his day job yet it SO is). He moves on to "Blinded By the Moon", which I was lucky enough to get my first listen to under a moon so beautiful this song inspired this photographer to run inside and grab her camera so she could take pictures of it.

When you find out that Hershel wrote, produced, mixed and pretty much played almost every instrument on it, designed the CD down to even the cover being a photograph he took, you realize this baby took so much of Hershel that you are downright surprised when you find out he doesn't deliver the CD himself (actually he might, I was not at home when my copy arrived). You will also be surprised that he has been able to hide in Chris's (tall and rather sparkly) shadow this long.

I have one thing to say to Mr. Isaak, he better keep Hershel's day job busy (a concert in Florida would be nice, I know who can open for you, you don't even need another tour bus) or else he might slip out and join you as the fellow troubadour he is.

If you are like me and enjoy having a soundtrack to this roadtrip we call life, add this disc into your collection or ipod and rock out to the tunes Hershel added to this Big Wide Wonderful World! Just thought I would add another little secret for fellow Chris Isaak AND SILVERTONE fanatics out there. If you don't get the joke, un"lucky" you but oh boy do I have another CD to suggest for you! Hershel's on that one too!
