Album Notes
Getting to Know Myself 1972

This recording was originally made for use in special education classes. The songs are equally effective in pre-school and early childhood classrooms.

The activities take advantage of a child's natural desire to explore, experience and discover. These movement oriented songs cover vocabulary related to self-awareness. Examples include:

Parts of the Body – hands, feet, arms, legs, hands, toes, elbows, knees, wrist, eyes, ears, neck, ankle, stomach.

Ways of Moving – walk, run, jump, hop, tip-toe, shake, bend, unbend, stretch, twist, touch, close, open, wiggle, turn, fly like a bird, swim like a fish, crawl like a bug.

Space and Direction – Front, back, side, up, down, over, under, forward, backward, inside, outside, behind, in front of, in back of, through, left, right.

Feelings and Emotions – happy, sad, angry, afraid, tired, sleepy.

The easy to do actions provide opportunities for involvement and success and thereby help to enhance a child's self-concept.

This is the first recording where Hap used professional studio musicians.
Recorded at Hollywood Sound Recorders in 1972, this production features:

Jim Gordon – Piano, Electric Piano, Clavinette
Bill Perry – Bass
Rick White – Electric, Acoustic Guitars
John Raines – Drums, Percussion
Hap Palmer – Vocals, Guitar, Recorder
Kathy, Bobby, Patty Flaherty – Children’s Chorus
Tom Perry – Engineer
Pat Hallum, Anna Carter – Background vocals “Shake Something”
Lianna Kelley – Cover design and illustrations

Love it!
I love this CD. I wake up in the morning singing these songs. I bought this CD as a record album when my children were young (they are now 26 & 28). I bought it for my new grandaughter and my new day care. My daughters were so excited to hear these songs again. We sing the songs to six week old Haley, and she loves it.

I love this CD. It really gets the children up and moving! :)
This CD is great for following directions and getting the children up and moving! My son always asks to dance to Sammy and the children I do child care for love it too! This has been a huge hit in my house! :) Highly recommend. (especially for those cold months and rainy days when the kids cannot get outside to release energy)

On our home's all-time favorite list!
This CD has been a favorite since we first heard it in preschool 5 years ago. This is the third time we have had to replace it after mishaps, but my girl simply won't live without it. When I tell her I need a time out for myself, she dances and dances to these songs... and I don't cry to hear them over and over again!

Hap Palmer - Getting to Know Myself

Excellent CD for small children with easy actions and wonderful lyrics.
Getting to Know Myself is one of the best children's CDs! Great for tiny kids with its simple actions and feel-good lyrics. I'm a pediatric nurse who works with special ed teachers and therapists in the classroom and home setting. SAMMY has been one of our favorite songs for years!

Getting to know myself
Just as great for my son as it was for me 25 years ago!

These are just great songs!!!
This is a great CD. My old preschool teacher used to play these songs when I was little and it took me forever to find out who the artist was so that I could purchase the CD for my 16 month old son. He gets so excited every time I start the CD for him, and we dance to the music every day. These are just great songs!!!

I used this CD 20 years ago with my kindergarten class and knew it was a must for my grandchildren.

I use Grandma's Farm during my farm unit. I used a cow, pig, horse, and dog puppet for a child to hold for each group. Then, the rest of the children joined whichever group they wanted. We had a Pre-K choir of farm animals. It was wonderful! Thank you, Hap Palmer
