Grand Head

by Grand Head

TEN TIMES THE THUNDER OF THE MELVINS, 66.6% THE PERSONNEL! Like Hellhamer from the 70's. Two brothers out of Portland Oregon bring the doom and monster riffs with a hardcore slant. No plodding 15 minute songs, instead this album contains 9 songs that will leave your ears bleeding in 30 minutes or less. Raw and dripping with influences ranging from Black Flag, The Melvins, Celtic Frost, and Harvey Milk. This is heavy on the riffs, and minimal on vocals, which sound at times like Cronos from Venom, and other times like Jerry A from Poison Idea. These brothers have been playing together a long time (mid 80's hardcore band Dread, and 90"s melodic punk band The Jimmies), you wont believe they make such a loud thud. The vinyl comes with a nice pull out lyric sheet, and some rough sketch artwork from the guitarist himself.

Album Notes

Under our mother's roof, in a small town in Longview, Washington, we first aimed at perfecting our Slayer, Hellhamer, and Venom covers. We also wrote an original song titled “Burn the Witch”. The year was 1984 and Mother was not happy.
Tim and I are brothers, and have played together ever since. Putting our first band together in 1987. A hardcore band based in Portland Oregon called Dread. Dread self destructed in a year. Then we spent 14 years in the Jimmies. A punk band that did release an album with Panic Button/Lookout Records.
Grand Head is based here in Portland Oregon, and have been together for about a year and a half.
This is our debut. The plan going in was “All the doom in 3 minutes or less.” Over the course of playing together it became less doom focused and more a mix of all our heavy music loves. A little Sabbath, a little Venom, and even a little Black Flag.
This album is self-released on my own little folk label. It will sit snug next to the very quiet music Gorbie International Records puts out.
Recorded at Type Foundry. In the spirit of the demo days, and inspired in part by the bands mentioned above.
Our self titled album will be released January 22nd 2016. We seek distribution, but the album will be available @ grandhead.com. $10 plus postage. Stickers come with it.
