We are still firm believers that if it can't be done with two guitars, bass and drums, then we probably won't bother. We've dabbled with some great keys and other instrumentation over the years, but these days we like to keep it simple and Rockin'. The interplay between the band's guitarists is still a key factor in the Gift Horse sound on this new album, creating sonic landscapes of crunching, soaring and chiming guitars of all shapes and sizes. There are no histrionics here, just shimmering, sparkling lines delivered with passion and honesty. This is aided and abetted by the powerful rhythm section, providing the requisite groove and gravity to keep the whole thing rolling. Make no mistake, this is a big sounding record, largely due to the technical prowess of local legend Producer/Engineer Jeff Lovejoy. As well as putting extra power in the Power Pop, he's also guided the band to craft and shape the arrangements to get every ounce of goodness out of this great batch of songs. Of course with Gift Horse, it's always been all about the songs. More wry observations of Brisbane backstreets sit snugly alongside tales of personal struggle and other traumas of modern living. There's still much more than cars and girls going on between these lines and it's all conveyed through punchy melodies and harmonies that keep playing in your head long after the final chord fades away...
