From the Boston Sunday Globe, “Fran Friedman is one of New England’s most popular performers of children’s music”. “Fran is known for her uplifting performances that use music to build self-esteem, and bring awareness to diversity and disabilities.” says the Carver Reporter. She has received 4 national awards for her previous CDs.
Fran brings together her background in music with her years as an audiologist. While at Boston U., Fran sang songs in coffee houses for political and social justice. She then put her music career on hold while attending U. of Wisconsin, Madison for a Master’s degree in Audiology, and then returned to Boston for a Doctorate in Audiology from B.U., and a Post-Doctorate in Neuropsychology from Tufts New England Medical Center. In all, Fran was a clinical audiologist for over 25 years.
While Fran loved helping people through her work as an audiologist, her passion for music returned. Fran always loved working with children, and so began the combination of working with children and music. She found that she could help children feel good about themselves and respectful of others through music. “Music is such a powerful vehicle to enhance respect for oneself and others, while having fun”, says Fran. Her work with parents and children was so rewarding, she put her audiology career on hold, and became a full-time children’s musician. She is currently performing for children in schools, libraries, and festivals, and is presenting workshops for teachers at regional and national conferences on topics such as: Promoting Self-Esteem Through Music, Celebrating Diversity Through Music, Music for the Heart and Mind, Identifying Hearing Loss in Very Young Children, among others. Fran also enjoys her work with the "Just Like Me" Disability Awareness Program for the children in elementary schools.
