Album Notes
“If I told you that I love you, would you already know?” The main line of this song asks a question that I’ve been asking in my head to those who I love recently. You may reread that and think “Pssh. You’re only a teenager. You don’t know the half of what being in love is like.” And you’re right. Even though I’m writing this song and feeling this feeling as a teen, I believe that if you ask or are asked this question, true feelings and emotions will emerge. Anyone can feel pain, fear, or a wave of realization can come over their entire body if that was the case. Maybe that’s how you felt when you first read my opening statement. I mean, who hasn’t been in love? More importantly, who hasn’t felt like they’re being too weird, clingy, or friendly with the people whom they love? Are you ever self conscious around those you love? I certainly am.
I couldn’t be more proud of this single. I’ve worked incredibly hard on it for four months. I thought Get Away was an incredible single production wise, but that was before I explored what I could do to make If I Told You the meaningful and emotion filled song I intended for it to be. Through working on this song, I’ve developed a whole new production process that actually balances each song’s main vocal and its instrumentation. Since I first started producing at the age of 12, this has always been my main struggle. My main weakness.
As you’re listening to this song, try to take in every nuance of it. Almost everything in this song was made with the power of collaboration. I worked with my songwriting coach, Coley O'Toole, to make these lyrics as impactful as possible. Matty Amendola taught me this whole new way to produce my music and Marc Stier, Wes White, and Sean Townsend all gave me production tips.
I also challenge you to ask this question: “If I told you that I love you, would you already know?” You don’t have to ask it out loud to someone who you love. But ask it in your head with a specific person or person(s) in mind. Who knows, asking this might change your life, as this single has changed mine.
