Fine Traditional Pakistani CD
"Baba Farid" by Fanna-fi-allah is a traditional Pakistani Qawwali album with very passionate tracks and a very spiritual energy. The arrangements, although traditional by nature, have a haunting element to them. The music has an expected Middle Eastern flavor to it, but with a little eeriness thrown into the mix to give the music a unique flavor. The players are all on their marks and the vocals are soulful. Highlights are "Allah Muhammad Chaar Yaar" with some great brass and accordian work. "Dam Dam Karo Farid" features some haunting Oud work and works its way into some joyful rhythms. "Ganj-e-Shakar" features fine Sitar work and a unique vocal performance. If you like Qawwali music, or finding interesting new world music, you'll enjoy this album.
