Album Notes
With Purpose was recorded in May 2012 at Hipposonic Studios (formally known as Mushroom Studios), in celebration of Dowco Triumph Street's 40th anniversary. This location has a long history as one of Vancouver’s premier recording facilities and has recorded many great artists including Diana Ross and the Supremes, Led Zeppelin, Heart and Loverboy.

With Purpose was produced by Ian Casselman, drummer and founding member of Juno-nominated Marianas Trench, who appeared courtesy of 604 Records.

“I have always wanted to produce a pipe band album and this is a dream come true,” said Casselman. “I spent most of my youth playing in pipe bands but my musical career has since taken me elsewhere. It’s been a lot of fun revisiting my roots.”

With Purpose features thirteen diverse tracks, including two suites composed by Australian band member Simon Blackshaw. The album bridges from the traditional to contemporary, with tracks ranging from Amazing Grace to pieces that include backing tracks featuring Ian Casselman.

Dowco Triumph Street was also pleased to have two of Vancouver’s most sought after sound engineers in Dave ‘Rave’ Ogilvie and Dean Maher work on the album. Dave has worked with multi-platinum artists such as Queen, David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails, and recently mixed Carly Rae Jepsen’s international hit ‘Call Me Maybe’. Dean has worked with the likes of Hedley, Marianas Trench and Michael Buble.

“Ian, Dave and Dean are all highly acclaimed in their respective fields and working with them on this album was an incredible opportunity for the band,” said Pipe Major David Hilder. “Throughout the project, Ian brought forth some very innovative and fresh ideas, and his contributions were invaluable in creating the final product. We are extremely pleased with the sonic sound captured on this album, having played a full band on each track.”

Added Casselman, “The open mindedness with which DTSPB has chosen to approach this album has been refreshing. It is my hope that together we will have created a great album and with a little luck, we will have introduced something new along the way."
