ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Malarkey is a born and raised bay area funk dj pioneering a unique style of breaks coined as "nu-school funk." Alternative club & lounge venues have turned their ears to this new sound in search of something other than the over-saturated House music dominance in San Francisco.

DJ'ing along side of such acts as Les Claypool, The Coup, Freq Nasty, Bassnectar, Stanton Warriors, Shpongle, Sound Tribe Sector-9, DJ Logic and more, he's continues to splash waves upon the west coast of America in night clubs, warehouses and large festivals alike.

Having released his debut DJ mix CD for Optimistic Music titled "The Boogaloo Boom Boom" in September of 06, he's quickly picking up momentium in studio productions as well another anticapted MIX release in spring 07.

The mix itself takes a close look into what many club enthusiasts call Break-Beat or just Breaks, appealing to both lounge listeners and dancers alike. The seamless programming from track to track usher you through the 70's funk era, fusing urban hip-hop drum patterns to it's core. Horn stabs and vocal samples shower the album while afro percussion and latin rhythms surface intermittently.

Fluid arrangement, the 19 track, 80 minute CD pops with fresh flavor taking subtle turns throughout the orchestration without ever going astray from a solid funk theme. Departing at 105 beats per minute and arriving in at around 130, this contrail flight reaches it's destination on time... turbulent free.

Highly recommended for any funk fanatic interested in taking a an electronic, break beat approach to the genre!

-Walley Clayborn, Glitch the System

not your typical DJ mix !
Absolutely dynamite of a mix !! Good time, funky underground party music to socialize and dance to. In the entirety of the album, the progression of energy is accelerated up until the very end. Takes you from a point A to point B unnoticeably. NICE WORK !!!

SOLID mix....period !
Being a complete music snob and byproduct of dj culture in the bay area, I know a lot of dj's, hence, listen to a lot of dance music. I don't know this guy nor have I ever seem him live, but this CD made it's way into my car after Burning Man and has since created a funk bomb wherever I take it. A truly timeless and classic dj mix.
