ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
2007’s Viva La Juerga is Diego’s Umbrella’s most anticipated studio effort to date. The record features a dozen catchy, crafty, and especially fun tunes that highlight the songwriters’ changing influences and distinct ability to meld a myriad of exotic styles with a pop sensibility that is accessible to the masses. Viva La Juerga features Diego’s Umbrella’s somewhat revamped lineup, including the addition of a full-time violinist/accordion player and a hard-hitting, “in-the-pocket” drummer to compliment the solid trio of strings that can be heard on prior releases. The songs on Viva are polished musical nuggets that truly tell you a story, but the band achieved this without sacrificing their quirky sense of humor and amusing nature. Indeed, this new record captures a sound that is relatively raw and energetic, imparting to the listener an accurate aural snapshot of Diego’s Umbrella’s finely-tuned live sound, but delivered in a powerful, succinct package that will almost certainly leave them wanting more.

love your band! love the album!
i was walking by union square on 2 july 2008 and i heard some great music. the audience was delightfully diverse in age and ethnicity. i heard some older folks say that your sound had elements of greek folk music. others insisted there was a strong klezmer influence. yet others believed they were hearing a modern version of their own various home countries. i saw a young boy refuse to go with his parents because he wanted to keep listening to you play. i saw exuberant dancing. i saw a band who was having fun and loved to play. by far, my fave moment was when tyson unintentionally multi-tasked and twanged his guitar and shook his tambourine at the same time. the looks you guys exchanged was priceless. i wanted to buy your album that day but i had empty pockets as i had just paid my rent. thank goodness for cdbaby!

best and worst songs of all time!!!
As a whole I love the music. It has given me a few new favorites... the fiberoptic elflord is so0o0o fun. only problems is i absolutely loath kalashnikov. First time I've ever found a CD where I only disliked one song. I tend to be a bit picky =)

So fresh, so much fun...
Thanks to Pandora for playing Diego! Some of the niche music like that is too self-serious. Viva la Juerga is fun, cleanly produced, has a rolling happy rhythm, and playful lyrics. It puts a whole new spin on world/alt/ethnic pop. I put the top down and crank it up.
