ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
First known for his guitar work with Generation X in the 1970’s, Derwood Andrews continues to make a mark on the instrument, this time playing a lap steel acoustic guitar throughout Tone Poet Vol II. Having influenced many top musicians over the years with his bands Empire, Westworld and the eclectic Moondogg, Tone Poet Vol II is the latest step along the path of discovering the guitar over again and stripping it back to basics. Westworld, Moondogg and the American country band Speedtwinn featured an increasing amount of slide guitar from Derwood, with a touch of it on Tone Poet Vol I, although it mainly features the old Strat - Marshall combo. This album is the result of an old lap steel, a years practice, writing and recording and learning a unique style he describes as Anglo Americana Punk.
There are many great country and blue grass pickers on the lap steel, or Hawaiian guitar as it is also known, and a few blues players…Derwood says he is more interested in the tone that he gets out of it than trying to master the instrument, the simple melodies and the feeling it seems to project to the listener are what has motivated Tone Poet Vol II.

Although I'm not a fan of the lap steel guitar sound, i can recognize the skill & technique here and i did enjoy the track "give her the gun"
