Album Notes
I started out to just make a 'jazz' CD on electric guitar. My first piece I chose was Chega de Saudade by Jobim, which I first recorded on electric. Then I thought, wait a minute, this would sound great on gut string, which I obviously did.
Then I started to get the idea of the concept of the album, and what direction I wanted to go in. I decided on several things: I wanted it to be all gut string. I wanted to try to get the most beautiful sound I possible could from by instrument.
I wanted to play with a tremendous amount of emotion and feeling, and to be as lyrical as I possibly could, in some ways to think as a wind instrument and/or a vocalist and to 'milk' the melody for all it's worth, to "back-phrase" like great vocalists, or instrumentalist do, without sacrificing any true "jazz" feeling. To select exquisite and the most beautiful pieces of music I could find, sometimes rather eclectic and unusual, not necessary all from the same genre. The pieces with a "groove", a tempo, to pick the absolutely best groove, the best tempo, the best "feel", (Before I did anything, I would do this first, sometimes spending up to two hours, to get the "perfect groove".) To try and orchestrate it to be as sonorous and complementary as possible. Harmonically to really give the (astute") listener "goose-bumps"!

During the recording of these pieces, the beauty and elegance and power of them really overcame me with emotion. I hope you are "touched" in a similar fashion, I tried to play everything from the recesses of my soul. Dennis Budimir

The Incredible Dennis Budimir
I am highly recommending a CD called The Soul of Dennis Budimir. I am not only endorsing it because he's one of my all-time favorite guitar player/musicians but because it is one of the best CD's that I've heard in a long, long time. The playing is brilliant ,warm and touching. The choice of material from Chega de Saudade ,O Amor,Come Rain or Come Shine,I Remember Clifford , Bachiana Brasilieras No.5 and six others is superb. What's even more remarkable is that Dennis played ALL of the instruments (bass, synthesizer, synth bass, synth strings,Fender Rhodes) and did all of the arrangements himself .This Cd is so inspirational on so many levels. My wife even likes it (and although she's never told me , I don't think that she's too crazy about jazz or instrumental music). I don't think that I have a favorite( I dig them all )but if I was forced to choose I would pick A Time for Love ( I've always liked that song)with I Remember Clifford being a close second. The Soul of Dennis Budimir will send any guitar player to the woodshed . In fact I have to run out and get a classical guitar myself (which I don't own). This Cd is so inspirational on so many levels ,as a guitar player, fughedaboudit ( sounds like something Dennis's friend and mentor Tommy Tedesco R.I.P might say). What I will say is get this CD and thank you Mr. Budimir .DP

Baring One's Soul
A courageous title, and a recording that lives up to expectations! Dennis Budimir has created some of the most beautiful music I've heard on a recently recorded disc. His techinque is impeccable; the program and arrangements highly MUSICAL! My favorite tracks are Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5 and Concierto De Aranjuez. Buy this disc --- but only if you enjoy listening to beautiful music from what MUST be a beautiful soul!
