ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Deepcave and Factor is a collaborative effort between two undeniable prairie hip hop powerhouses who've been instrumental in keeping their respective local scenes at the forefront of Western Canadian/Prairie hip hop.

For several years the Deepcave crew have held it down in Winnipeg putting on the city's most successful hip hop shows, touring, battling and dropping some of the best flows and rhymes in Canadian hip hop. Consisting of Big Bear, Royal-T, Lev, P-Nut, 40oz and DJ Poetics, Deepcave's a mutli-talented crew of raw lyricists, producers and DJ's with each member individually boasting an impressive resume of critically acclaimed albums(solo and as part of groups), positive magazine and online reviews as well as various other accolades that come with a history of being a reliable staple on the local "Pegcity" hip hop scene. Recently Deepcave have been featured on the 2 newest releases from LA's Awol one- "Only Death Can Kill You" and "Afterbirth". Deepcave's live show is amongst the most energetic and entertaining shows in hip hop today leaving an everlasting impression while touring with LA's Awol One and Brooklyn's legendary Boot Camp Clik as well as opening for the likes of Method Man, Masta Ace, Naughty By Nature, Black Moon, Necro, Obie Trice, Wordsworth, Souls Of Mischief, Living Legends, Zion I, The Grouch, Aceyalone, DJ Craze, Brother Ali, Blueprint, Busdriver(Project Blowed), Swollen Members, The Crest, Eternia, Joe Dub, Subtitle, Josh Martinez, Classified, and DL Incognito. Albums by individual Deepcave members have gotten national distribution as well as radio play on college/ community radio all over Canada, in various US cities and also in several overseas hip hop markets.

Factor is one of the busiest and most successful hip hop producers in Canada. Known for consistently dropping top notch product on his own Sideroad Records imprint out of Saskatoon since the late 90's, he's produced over 20 full length albums, several 12" and 7" vinyls and has produced for some of North Americas best hip hop acts. Factor's music has garnished international distribution and he's received positive critical acclaim by way of magazine and website reviews as well as receiving radio play on college/community radio all over Canada, the US and even in Japan where he locked down a deal with Hue Records. Factor's toured extensively all over and has appeared in several music videos alongside artists he's produced. Artists Factor's produced for include Americans Awol One, Sadat X, Mykah 9, Joe Dub, Akuma, The Shapeshifters, Ceshi, Candy's 22(Existero and Barfly), and Kirby Dominant, also some of Canada's finest such as Moka Only, Ira Lee, Josh Martinez, Noah 23, Ben E Elim, Def 3, Epic, Kay The Aquanaut, Nolto, Cam the Wizzard, Metropolis Now and many more. Factor's production combines smooth melodic samples over immaculate drums put together seemingly effortlessly to create a distinct sound of his own and it's for this reason he's consistently banging out one of a kind beats as one of western underground hip hop's most in demand producers.

The Deepcave and Factor album was written, recorded and produced between summer 2006 and spring 2007 combining the results of several visits by the Deepcave crew to record and perform in Saskatoon. It started out with the Deepcave crew heading to Saskatoon on tour with Awol One where, after meeting Factor and hanging at his studio after their show, the track "Woke Up" was created. From there, there were a few other trips to perform in Saskatoon resulting in hanging out at Factors studio after shows with the Sideroad Records family which eventually culminated into a slew of late night writing and recording sessions (at one time rushing to turn out 5 tracks in a 5 hour drunken haze) spawning this very album. Fast forward a couple of months and there was still a few tracks more that needed to be made to complete the album so Factor brewed up a few more gems and sent them to Winnipeg where the remaining tracks were written and recorded. This gave Deepcave the opportunity to spend more time on the writing process and the chance to enlist contributions from crew members who weren't able to make the Saskatoon trips as well as a collaboration with local hip hop favorite John Smith and later enlisting Thunder Bay's DJ Ghost to put the finishing touches on the album with a barrage of butter smooth cuts.
