Album Notes
"I'm You" by the Dan San Band is a song about 2 very different people somehow coming together to create a new entity - from individuals to couple. The verses present three distinct examples of opposite things mixing together, one romantic, one playful, and one sorrowful.

Musically, the song starts sparsely in a driving 6/4 time signature with bass and then guitar mirror a one-note melody. But soon the 4-piece horn section and Fender Rhodes kick in to add a powerful and catchy hook. In the chorus, the whole band switches to 4/4 with the notable exception of the guitar player, who soldiers on in 6/4 only to meet the rest of the band on the other side when the next verse begins. The mixing of two different time signatures to create a more compelling musical idea is the 4th and most subtle example of the phenomenon explored in the song.

"I'm You" features instrumentation and production as if it were right out of the late 1970s, echoing bands like the Police, Steely Dan, and even Rush in its creative and conceptual ambitions.
