Cuando Estaba Tranquilo

by Danielle Sarah Cohen

This music is a composite of a blank slate shared by nature and the city, a specific soundscape as a designated creative catalyst. Three songs are in English, but I include a translation for the title because there is piano selection called "Immigration".

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Cuando Estaba Tranquilo" is a collection of songs created before my life was uprooted in 2009. Themes include location and family, consciousness, longing, and interdependence.

I use to conceptualize most of my music in the morning, so I called my music "Morning Songs". My mind feels most ecstatic and free flowing during the hours after waking up, so morning is my favorite time of day. When uninhibited by the forces of reality, my music can come out into a complete song without much effort with melody and lyrics created simultaneously. I always add chords after the improvisation, sometimes months or years after the original concept.

The four songs were recorded at Firehouse 12 in New Haven, CT on Tuesday 12/18/2018.

Immigration - c. 1995 - Created in New Haven, CT;
Where Are You - June 2007 - Created in Bedford–Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY;
On The Other Side Of Sleep - June 2007 - Created in Bedford–Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY;
I Wasn't Free From You - June 2007 - Created in Bedford–Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY.
