Album Notes
Coal Beautiere is born of the green sweet forests of Northern California, and influenced by the gold fever that lies there under the river rock, the old ghosts that still haunt the hotels and saloons, the quiver and courage of raw true voices like Daniel Johnston, the Atchafalya swamp of Louisiana, and anything bayou, beautiful, and antique. But their theme is modern, and shines with revolution and childlike hope. Songstress Adrienne cares to write music almost solely to bring her messages to the audience. Arthur brings a steady serious to the shows. In a world where abstract indie music and esoteric art is hailed increasing the most-worthy, they still hope to bring music with meaning and purpose, some political and some spiritual. Their haunted melodies had proven frustratingly difficult to put into a genre, maybe "post-goth hope-folk" will do it, or "hymnal piano-pop", still figuring that out.

Coal Beautiere's music is enchanting. If I described their music in images, I would tell you to think Fairytales, The Animals of Farthing Wood, Watership Down and The Secret Garden. This CD is so rich with messages of hope, love, compassion and a sense of childhood magic and innocence. I am in love with this band and I believe I would have been more than happy to pay AUS $25-30 if I had known what a treasure this CD would've been to me. Their lyrics are amazingly poetic and beautiful. Just beautiful.
