ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From Burn the Treaty to our Old and New Friends -

When you listen to this, our first "official" project together, you will experience a selection of songs Scott and I (Morgan) wrote with our whole hearts. They each impart an emotion we have felt or a situation one of us has experienced. And it's in our passion (from pain, from thankfulness, from reflection) that we create. We took our time in choosing the most fitting songs for this EP. We hope you feel our passion and that this passion is contagious. Burn the Treaty - Write Your Own.

Thank you to every single person who lent their talents to create this album. A special thank you to Mitch Dane for your creative input and your patience!

REVIEW from Jonathan Whidran (JWVIBE.COM):
The story of Burn the Treaty, the explosive emerging duo of indie singer/songwriter Morgan Bracy and rocker Scott Carter, is one of powering through disappointment and heartache to find hope on the other side, and never giving up on finding one’s truest mode of expression no matter the odds. Driven by a hybrid folk, country, Americana and rock vibe they dub “Spooky Roots,” the Nashville based musical and life partners tap into life’s crazy roller coaster of emotions on their hard hitting, stylistically eclectic debut EP Sticks and Stones.

LYRICS

Murky Moon Sky

I’ve got a number written on me, clear as the bark on a sycamore tree.
Swinging in low, muddy earth on my feet, and I’m walking these streets, walking these streets.

I’ve got a halo floating over my head, tainted and tilted a little bit red,
Hanging from grace, broken puppet on strings, and I’m falling too deep, falling too deep.

Calling me, oh, I’m ready but I don’t know when.
Calling me, oh, can’t see you out of all of my sin.

I’m like a cat prowling ‘round in the grass, scratching and slinking to catch me a mouse.
Pay no heed who is creating on me - I’m a goner it seems, a goner it seems.

Murky moon sky, ghosts from my past, whispering mist, breath on my neck,
Almost hear but I never can see - Is it coming for me? Coming for me.

Calling me, oh, I’m ready but I don’t know when.
Calling me, oh, can’t see you out of all of my sin.

The murky moon light’s trying to shine my way
But I can’t make it out through the haze of the day.
The murky moonlight’s trying to send a message to me.
And I still believe, although I can’t see.

Calling me, oh…Calling me, oh…
Calling me, oh…Calling me, oh, I’m ready but I don’t know when.
Calling me, oh, can’t see you out of all of my sin.

Murky moon sky, murky moon sky,
Won’t you shine your light on me,
Murk moon sky.

Volcano

You know how to push my buttons
Just the wrong way.
Sends a signal through my core
And ignites my flame.
It’s been rumbling inside me
But you woke it up.
Well, look out honey,
Better starting running,
Cause I’m more than a little hot.

I, I’m a volcano
My words are hot lava, they’re gonna melt right through your soul, Oh…
I’ll burn your lying heart to ashes.
When I’m done with you,
You’ll be one big black hole.
Oo, Oo, I’m a volcano

You may witness this destruction,
But you had a part to play.
You’re the spark that lit this fire.
Don’t pretend you’re not to blame.
Can you see the smoke that’s rising
Circling ‘round my head?
I’m a natural disaster,
Your Angry ever after,
And you ain’t seen nothing yet.

I’m an explosion of emotion
And I can’t hold anything back.
If I had your attention for just one second,
It’d never have to get this bad.

GRATEFUL

Thank you, Lord, for ships that sail and don’t go bump in the night.
Thank you, Lord, for planes that fly and don’t crash somewhere out of sight.
Thank you, Lord, for children sleeping safely in their beds,
For hopeful dreams within their hearts and visions in their heads.

I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments that
will never be, never be.
I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments we have
you and me.

Thank you, Lord, for the passing stranger who treats me like a friend.
When I am lost who helps me find my destination’s end.
Thank you, Lord, for carrying me from home to work everyday,
Without the threat of bomb or mob or riot in my way.

I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments that
will never be, never be.
I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments we have
you and me.

Sun keeps shining ’til it falls asleep,
and it don’t mean nothing ’til it sinks in deep.
Yeah, the sun keeps shining ’til it falls asleep,
and it don’t mean nothing ’til it sinks in deep.

I’d like to take a moment…

I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments that
will never be, never be.
I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments that
will never be, never be.
I’d like to take a moment to be grateful for the moments we have
you and me.

Sticks and Stones

You found my number and figured me out.
You get your highs from bringing me down.
Shouldn’t pay you mind cause your talk is cheap.
Daggers out your mouth, you know how to cut me deep.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can be the poison.
Mama always said to guard my heart and never let the noise in.
You can punch, you can throw but my bones will mend,
yet, I’m still bleeding from the things you said.
Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words, words can start a war.

It’s easy to hide behind a page.
You’re saying things that you wouldn’t say to my face.
You can try but you never will erase, the fact
that you’ve been blind for quite some time by the flag you wave.

You threw sticks and you threw stones
You threw bricks and I ran on home
I thought it was over but you wrote me a note to curse me, just to hurt me

Words can start a war
Words can start a war

Fool’s Gold

There comes a time when you cannot define
your space between the lines,
the grays of indecision.
When right and wrong are not just words, no,
they are oaths your heart whispers.

I’m wavering like willow branches in a wind I never had a say in.
Your camouflage is melting from my skin.
Your branded lies are fading.

Hold me, hold me like a hostage up for ransom.
Mock me for wanting out your front door.
Tell me that I’ll never be…extraordinary.
‘Cause I won’t take your fool’s gold.

My feet asleep. They’re rocks beneath my hands.
I’m sitting hard to keep my shaking legs from standing.
I’m pouring out the last of your kool-aid.
I’ve done all you have said, and frankly, find it hard to stand it.

I’ve waved like willow branches in a wind I never had a say in.
Your camouflage is melting from my skin.
Your branded lies are fading.

You can’t…
Hold me, hold me like a hostage up for ransom.
Mock me for walking out your front door.
Tell me that I’ll never be…something beautiful.

Take me, take me for a ride in your illusion.
Never help me find the true conclusion that I can ever be more,
Just ‘cause I won’t take your fool’s gold.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, your precious metal is a pile of rust.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, your precious metal, well it, don’t mean much.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, your precious metal ain’t got my trust.
Ashes to ashes, due to dust, your precious metal, well, it’s out of touch.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
