Album Notes
From rockabilly to horn fueled R&B to understated ballads, “I’m That Way” is a new release by Beth McKee, acclaimed blues artist of the New Orleans, Austin, and Jackson MS music scenes. As a member of the band Evangeline, she signed with MCA records and wrote, played and sang on national releases that received critical acclaim and commercial success.

“I’m That Way” is a collection of songs written by Louisiana songsmith Bobby Charles, best known for his songs "Walking To New Orleans," "But I Do" and "See You Later Alligator." Beth has always been a big fan of Bobby's singing and writing and this album is a tribute to his craft.

What the Critics Say About "I'm That Way:

. . . blasting saxes, slashing and sliding guitars, burbling organ and piano (McKee leading the way on the latter) and earthy beats (from hubby/co-producer Juan Perez) all keyed to McKee’s naturally lusty vocals. -Steve Hochman OffBeat Magazine

Sometimes a collection of songs is so flat-out right all you can do is shake your head and smile. Which is exactly what I’m That Way makes you do. Beth McKee is a deeply moving Southern singer who loves the music of songwriter Bobby Charles so much she has recorded a whole album of his knocked-out originals, which just happen to be some of the best songs ever written.- Bill Bentley,

. . . her soulful vocals make you stop and listen, turn up the volume and soak the magic up . . . This is one terrific album that I can't stop playing, it's that good! -Rick Meek Blue Suede News

If there is any justice, I'm That Way should open the world's eyes to the talents of both McKee and Charles.- Jim Markel

I'm That Way
Beth McKee's latest 'I'm That Way' is a left field gem. Tackling an album entirely of Bobby Charles tunes and doing it justice is a risky proposition in itself, but Beth, in her Dusty Sprinfield-like voice, delivers one of the best albums of the year. Gritty and swampy in all the right areas, this is a percolatin' musical delight. Listeners might not be familiar with Bobby Charles, but perhaps will recognize such tunes as 'Walking To New Orleans', 'Last Train To Memphis' or 'See You Later Alligator', andBeth and her band deliver every one of them in way that would have undoubtedly made Bobby Charles proud. It's ironic that on an album entirely of cover tunes, in style reminiscent of the late great Dusty Springfield, that Beth has delivered a album that is entirely and uniquely her own. One of my favorites of the year. Highly recommended! --Tom Core
