ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"BBBR frontman Dean Haakenson radiates self-made literacy and puts it to musical use in fey, brambly, rockish folk. Nothing about it is robotic, in case you’re concerned; rather, the songs seem effusively human—chatty, rhythmically fidgety and ready to live, with a few discordant thorns left among the rosy harmonies for credibility’s sake. One quickly obvious keeper is “Intended Music,” whose early phrases Haakenson pipes up with a guileless bleat on the order of Daniel Johnston, only then to declare his own commendable musical and narrative priorities: “Let’s have these conversations out loud.” Right on. " - Jonathan Kiefer, Sacramento News and Review 4-26-2007.
You will never know how much I appeciate the fact that you are spending this very precious moment in your life meditating on the possiblity of ordering this Debut Be Brave Bold Robot Album. Several wonderful friends of mine spent so much time and energy learning the songs and playing them with me, live and on this recording, and the current bassist for our Be Brave Bold Robot, Matthew Gerken, he recorded it all and we spiritedly sweated over it, and oh my goodness. here it is. all of the base tracks for the songs were recorded at the same time, so the "album" has a nice consistency to its soundscape. but, rest assured, there is plenty of auxiliary instrumentation, lovely bells and whistles placed here and there to surprise and titillate you. My imagination has disallowed me to have any sort of solid perception of the concept of perfection, so I will not say that this LP exists as such. It is passionate, and heartfelt, and much work went into it. So, it is what it is, and it was loved and read to often. She will make you happy, it is my hope, this collection of songs, and if that happens, then its purpose has been served. Please continue to not use fossil fuels or purchase consumer goods unless you really need to (if you don't buy it, then another one doesn't need to be made, and the endless cycle of non-essential waste could possibly be quelled...even if only briefly...and an economic order will fall into place that revolves around logical necessity and not pop culture trends).....well, except for this CD...go ahead and buy this CD...okay, and buy yourself a hammock too...and then remember to think globally and act locally in the aforementioned nonWasteful way. Also, remember to eat vegetables and drink water, and think happy thoughts (even if they are rooted in dense macabre). Thank you very very much for supporting Be Brave Bold Robot, if you have chosen to do so, and stay tuned for whatever happens, even if that happens to be that I start up a Western United States farm that specializes in a new type of apple that perfectly blends all of the best parts of the Pink Lady Apple and the Fuji Apple….Crisp and Refreshing without being mealy, with little to no flesh browning phenomena…..I will give you sweet deals on cases….especially if you are selling them on a corner in your neighborhood…. www.bebraveboldrobot.com

Rosy Harmonied Raggedly Tuneful Storytelling!!!
There’s no better place in town for a Be Brave Bold Robot CD release party than Luna’s Café, where the vibe is always cozy and conducive to raggedly tuneful storytelling. That suits BBBR frontman Dean Haakenson, who radiates self-made literacy and puts it to musical use in fey, brambly, rockish folk. Nothing about it is robotic, in case you’re concerned; rather, the songs seem effusively human--chatty, rhythmically fidgety and ready to live, with a few discordant thorns left among the rosy harmonies for credibility’s sake. One quickly obvious keeper is “Intended Music,” whose early phrases Haakenson pipes up with a guileless bleat on the order of Daniel Johnston, only then to declare his own commendable musical and narrative priorities: “Let’s have these conversations out loud.” Right on.

Making The World Braver and Bolder
Dean Haakenson is a fearless performer who reveals his deepest passion through songs his audience consistently sings along to. A friend to all, he instantly includes us in what feels like the Dean Haakenson movement; he is a force that is somehow simultaneously demanding and kind, towering and comedic. Dean’s story encourages us to say anything, be anything and to do it now! He gives away kitchenware and other household appliances. Dean’s music is certainly accessible (you may be singing along at your first show) but listen further for his dynamic rise and fall, his melodic intricacies and the grandeur of his trials and triumphs. A pillar for songwriters everywhere Dean strips himself of inhibition yet still he takes command; emotionally and mentally unleashed, Dean Haakenson resolutely puts on a tremendous show.

I'm not so good at writing reviews... but I really liked the samples I heard on CDBaby... so I got it... because of the soul coughing mention... as it turned out... im not sure the soul coughing connection... but i really like this stuff. considering the instrumentation... there's an amazing amount of depth to the music. It works both as a background type of music but also as feature for whatever I'm doing.

Sometimes music just has to feel good. Be Brave Bold Robot feels good.

A wonderful ride through ones own senses...
I am very pleased with this album. It takes you on a journey and it is a good ride. The first song really grabs you and keeps you through the entire album, and the lyrics and prose are incredible. Dean and friends create a whirlwind of emotions that are a joy to listen to. The music is well done and the album sounds great. Grab this CD, it's fast becoming a favorite with my kids too. Fun, eclectic, energetic, intelligent, and , well, jeezz, I don't know, it's really good!

The Be Brave Bold Robot Experience
It's happy and jaunty and consistently catches the listener off-guard. This is the Be Brave Bold Robot experience on their first CD. It is poetic and heartwarming, surprising and intelligent. It is the product of the power of friendship and love, clearly stated from the first track Keep the Women Happy. It is pure and honest, a trip through the mind of a confident artist. It is happening all around you as you listen. It is unpredictable, clever, and humorous, as heard on The $1000 Grape Drive-By. Its production is serene and flawless. It is all these things.

Lyrical master and rainbow of sounds
The CD is a lyrical masterpiece, the words guide you through each song as a totally unique story, that makes you laugh and ponder all at the same time. The detail of the lyrics and harmony makes me long to eat pancakes with maple syrup and melting butter, sitting at the kitchen table, just thinking and talking about the dead.

Captivated at first listen
I'll be honest here... I typed in Modest Mouse to see what might present itself and was rewarded beyond my wildest expectations. Suprise me they did. The spare and somewhat raw vocals that Dean presents serve well to draw the listener into his landscape of all that is human, from disenchanted to forlorn, from playful and quirky to downright funny, from pretty to heartbreakingly, sadly sweet. If you don't care for any of these moods never fear, you won't be left there for long. In short, the instrumentals are inventive and attention grabbing, the voice rings true with endearing simplicity, and the lyrics... Oh, the lyrics... They will remind you of a past, or the present, or someplace you hope to be some day, or at least get to witness and live through vicariously. I'll leave the good music on for the ghosts, and hope for more soon to sate them and me in future.
