Album Notes

Every once in a while you know when you have something special. Baptizte (born Fredrick Thompson) has always been a bright young man who was ahead of his class. Sometimes so much so that he didn’t even go.

Teachers mistook this for hooking.

In the years that followed Baptizte communication skills have surely improved.

After years of writing quietly & playing the background, while patiently waiting his turn, the time is now to introduce Baptizte to the world. Why now? “Why not?” he retorts “I’m not the kind of person that can live with what ifs”.

By a chance meeting Baptizte hooked up with producer Norman Lee Rockwell II in mid ’06. A few months later their combined talents produced the buzz building 8 track album ‘TALES FROM COLUMBIA’, a reference to Baptiztes’ place of birth as well as home town. Two months later a second and longer 14 track album entitled ‘NEXT LEVEL’ was completed.

Just as ‘TALES FROM COLUMBIA’ was a multi-angled view of Baptiztes’ thoughts of the times, which produced the eyebrow raising tracks: “Could’ve Been _ _ _ _” which speaks about “wanting to be someplace different” he explains; to “Pride & Honor” which simply talked about how people need to remember their greatness; and not to mention “I Known a Few” which was an instant hood classic, ‘NEXT LEVEL’ displays Baptiztes love for life and good times. From tracks like: “I’m In LOVE” which is not just an energizing track but also a clever play on words; to “My Myspace Friend”; to the album closing “Adlibs”, Baptizte promises not only to stimulate your mind but also keep your toes tapping.

Amassing an international network of supporters in the US, the UK, Germany, & Japan to name a few Baptizte has remained humble stating “I just want to spread my music to anyone that will listen”.

Baptiztes’ style is a little different from the stereotypical rap artist. From Washington, DC, the media described “Murder Capitol” at one point not so long ago, Baptizte has no problem not blending in as he states “I have nothing to prove… I’m from one of the most dangerous cities in the world”.
