ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
After releasing their promotional EP called Touched, Amyas has been attempting to emerge as one of the premier Hip-Hop groups in Northern Florida. As their efforts rise, they remember to make music that is commercially viable but intellectually inspiring. The Jacksonville based rappers’ hard-hitting music has been able to educate and entertain simultaneously.

With State of Mind, their debut album released independently under their moniker Positive Movement, Amyas has ushered us into their career-defining work. This is a polished collection showcasing their advanced lyricism and their penchant for creating music that resonates long after the song ends. "State of Mind is the ultimate conceptual album, but it gives you a foray of sounds and topics," Elaborate explains. "The key to making good music is being candid by coming from the heart coupled with having something that is universally important to say."

Throughout State of Mind, the group delivers powerful music that sparks your imagination and makes your body move. In an industry littered with repetition, Amyas displays an impressive range of styles and sensibilities--whether easy going lyrics on "Don’t Stop the Beat," to reflecting on the mysteries of the heart on "Loved," or speaking on abuse on "Dry Tears" (featuring Yamileh “Yammie” Marcellus)

They team with other artists like Earl Elkins of 4:2 Five on "Same Road." Over militaristic drums and a minimalist groove, Mewszick makes brash declarations on how he overcame the struggles of a bad environment. "Rise" tackles American jingoism in a time of terror (the Virginia Tech Massacre), providing a much-needed dose of perseverance when facing tragedies. The album also houses production by The Stereotypes (“Smile” & “Feel the Rush”) while exhibiting intelligence and progression and as they usher in the New Era of Conscious hip-hop.

REAL Hip-Hop for Everybody
I don't usually listen to much hip hop (though I love Common and De La Soul) but I do respect "real" hip-hop. What makes it real? Not just sampling a song you didn't make and talking over it about how much money you have or how women are only good for using and throwing away. MCs have the power to make people listen while they're dancing and Amyas takes advantage of that by putting real and important messages inside of beats that will keep you grooving all night.

These guys are actual musicians, and know that what's happening in society needs light shed on it - not on "grillz" or your Bentley coupes. This is inspirational music that's fun at the same time made for intelligent people. If this describes you- get this album ASAP!

A New "State of Mind"
Quintessential Hip-Hop at its finest! What honestly separates these guys from most is the fact that they obviously made it a point to work harder than everyone else in the genre. It is undoubtedly the reason this album is just plain different from everything else currently out. There hasn't been an album that has exhibited pure passion and sensual depth for awhile now, maybe since college dropout. That passion alone takes the album to another level.

5 mics for all my hip-hop heads out there!

Outstanding
Overall, Amyas delivers an album where all of the songs have a meaning. Most of the songs have great lyrics and a lot of them also have great production, thus making "State of Mind" interesting enough for both old and new fans. Some songs are so good they could become hits with promotion, others are suited better for albums. However, here we got artists offering solutions to problems and someone who's both faithful to the past and looking forward to the future. Either way, "State of Mind" is a must have. This is Hip Hop.
