Album Notes
This Piano music was created to accompany an art film, and was written and recorded to specific timing requirements. The art was organized in chapters by colour.
Each piece was created in the extempore method. The composition occurred in the music brain while sitting at the instrument; generally each piece has two themes that were developed and interwoven, though there was variation and room for inspiration. The subject matter was meditated upon, in this case the emotive impression of each colour. The music was developed on the spot, and generally recorded within a few minutes.
I live in the cabin my wife Carrie and I have built over the past twenty years. It’s in the foothills of the La Garita Mountains, at 8200 feet, with a fine view of Sierra Blanca and the Sangre De Cristos. It’s mostly very quiet, with the sights and sounds of the wild high country our constant companions. Our neighbors are descendants of Spanish settlers, ranch and farm folk of many derivations, and hard working, upstanding people who all love the high country.
I’ve had a fine time the past 30 years as a working musician. I’ve played many thousands of engagements, from Portland Oregon to Petersburg Russia. As a solo, a singer, a band member or leader, recording artist, composer, producer and engineer. I’ve played for, and with, famous folks, vacationers, families and organizations, small children, elderly folks, and people from everywhere.
I’ve learned that we’re all artists, everyone is very musical, and that we all share a keen aesthetic vision of life and the world we live it in. It’s been a lucky, and very engaging life which I still enjoy immensely. And, I’ve learned that all of us are brave and true.
