Album Notes
This release, originally released on Ode/BMG, features Eugene Albulescu in a well balanced recital. The sound is superb, featuring a magnificent Hamburg Steinway model D, as well as audiophile standard recording and editing, using the Sonic Solutions editing suite.

Fanfare Magazine reviewed this CD, alongside Albulescu's Liszt CD that won a Grand Prix du Disque Liszt. It mentioned that Albulescu's playing here...

"has the same communicative power, and the same commitment to unpressured momentum, that mark his Liszt recital. Historical purists may find his Scarlatti, and even his Haydn too unapologetically pianistic (although even in the slow movement of the Haydn, he consistently refuses to let the music congeal). But there is little to fault in his superb handling of rhythm, articulation, and voicing in the Romantic Repertoire (listen to the polyphony in the B section of the Rachmaninov) -- not to mention the sheer authority of his climaxes. Albulescu is a first rate pianist with strong fingers and a strong interpretative perspective as well. All in all a pianist to watch." -- FANFARE

Superb CD. Had to get the CD after experiencing this man of genius first hand. Got two of this recording and his Beethoven Hammerklavier.
