Album Notes
"A veritable (prog-trad) folk supergroup whose next moves promise to be extraordinary" - Folk Radio UK

In a world where hyphenated genres are becoming the norm, all kinds of monikers are available for a contemporary folk band - post-folk, trad-core, alt-roots. File under World, or file under Celtic? Aerialists fits best with the beautifully contradictory term prog-trad, melding their ferociously creative harmonic sensibilities with a deep love for folk traditions. The quintet draws from the wells of Nordic and Gaelic music, adding expansive post-rock textures and meticulously sculpted arrangements to create captivating, genre-defying new music.

Fiddler Elise Boeur (Jenny Ritter), Scottish harpist Màiri Chaimbeul (Darol Anger & The Furies, Brìghde Chaimbeul), and guitarist Adam Iredale-Gray (Fish & Bird) form the core of the quintet, recording with young Boston heavyweights Sean Trischka on drums and Nate Sabat on bass.

Their first full length album Group Manoeuvre is a powerful collection of brilliant tunewriting, evocative soundscapes and imaginative arrangements. Aerialists take no shortcuts in their music: at turns reflective and exhilarating, they are fully committed to an expansive and wonderfully unique sound. The hauntingly powerful Canadian singer Emily Millard is featured on the record; her intense fragility is impossibly well suited to the evocative instrumental backdrop. Meticulously sculpted arrangements of their own original compositions and traditional Scottish, Irish and Norwegian fiddle tunes, honed through many hours on the road and in rehearsal, form the sound of the album.

Group Manoeuvre was produced and engineered by Iredale-Gray himself on his very own label Fiddlehead Records (Fish and Bird, Jenny Ritter). The boutique label has established a stellar reputation for releasing exceptional, genre defying and innovative Canadian folk music.
