Album Notes
The inspiration for this album formed alongside personal and world events of the past decade, beginning with the conception of my first grandchild, Rylee Kae, shortly before 9/11 and the wars and contentious elections that left us all feeling Abused.
From this Depth of Silence arose a new generation of challenges, and, thankfully for me, balancing fulfillment with arrival of five beautiful grandchildren, spread across the continent, from Michigan to the Aleutian Chain.
This recording is dedicated to them – including a miscarried Little Child – and it is a celebration of the seasons and stories of my life. I have bloomed like Alaska’s magenta fireweed, nourished by volcanic ash and the midnight sun; I have ridden Dark Horses through the stormy shadows of spring; I have pedaled my bike past Eklutna Lake’s stunning mountain terrain; and I have danced through cottonwood forests down my Tundra Road.

AMPM24-7 Productions

Production Notes
In Dec 2009, Mark Lagerwey brought some of his songs to AMPM24-7 Productions, to make his first "produced record". Mark played the acoustic guitars (2 per song), and sang both the lead and harmonies, to a drum loop. After Michael "lived with" the songs for a day or two, he sculpted arrangements around Mark's tracks, wanting to make them feel like those always were the arrangements. Michael created the drums and played the bass, electric 6 and 12 string guitars, lap steel, mandolin, electric piano, organ and synthesizers.
The short video located on our wesbite at : http://ampm24-7.com/Services.aspx features edited sections from two of Michael's favorite songs on the Life's A Celebration CD; Abused and Alaska.

Abused needed a motif, which Michael's electric 12 string and electric piano lines filled out nicely in stereo. An empty verse became an electric 12 string guitar solo, giving the song a cheery place to rally. Mark wanted Alaska to "rock". So, Michael came up with the electric guitar theme, giving it drive, which along with the drums and bass track added energy. The lap steel guitar and organ lines glue the verse together and help build up the chorus. There are some fun little details, too, like the guitar harmonics as raindrops in the first verse and as "horn stabs" throughout. Mark was delighted (still is!) with how his "unplugged" songs, bloomed into a much bigger panorama with Michael providing the backup band!
