Ever Since Then

by Hal Hirshon

Migratin' from a HiFi shop to a long rotation on a left-coast radio station network, this lil' stretch w/Kevin Eubanks delivers a bit o' sinus-clearin', malaise disipatin', multi-verse transcendin' flute and six-string juju for star-gazin' free spirits.

Album Notes
Once upon a time, WitchDoktor ventured into Manhattan to hook with the kindly and good-natured Kevin Eubanks , Marc Johnson, Bob Mintzer, and other scare-ee! post-bop hombres (the kind who threw-down with Miles, Bill Evans, Jaco Pastorious . . .), all the while schemin' a realization of trans-syekick meta-rational inner child surfacin' proclivities for trans planetary trespass.

One of the most well-received of these late 80's Gotham recordings, "Ever Since Then" finds former NBC Tonight Show bandleader and perennial uber jazz journeyman, Sir Kevin E, offerin' up a beauteous lead narrative avec shweet triadic voicin's atop WitchDok's platter of open chord distillate (c/o Shecter Tele) and woodwind garnish (an ol' Armstrong stick packin' a lode o' silver). The first professionally recorded instrumental collaborative to flesh out a chief H-Man aesthetic imperative (Ascend, Increase Rate of Ascension, Reconcile All Ills), Evah Since was printed and mixed by the inestimably talented Billy Straus on his home turf, The Manhattan Recording Company (a one-time analogue shed o' choice for many a jazz celeb back in the day). The liltin' swing of Kevin's six-string and the skyward saunter of Huckleberry's wind-song rumination caught the ear of a radio program secret agent - an intermediary who straight-away got the track to a program director at KKSF (San Fran). Soon after, the tune was gettin' air-play on sistah stations (topping out in Seattle). For several months, "Ever Since Then" played at least once every two weeks up and down the Pacific Coast.

So here's the tune foreshadowin' the otherworldly wistful mojo behind "Hal's Voo Doo Love Shack" and "Aloft". Careful, the view at this altitude is said to induce a heady, wistful spate o' euphoria.
