Album Notes
"Clearly a good singer with a uniquely admirable consistency in her lyrical abilities, Emily’s songs and performance last week seemed to shun a stifling “hipsteresqe” genre or style, so too often the norm, and exuded a refreshingly traditional focus on songcraft. Emily’s influences are the most lyrically-driven geniuses of our time, and she’s learned very well to tell her stories, or paint her verbal pictures without forcing the words to the melody for the passive listener. Thank you for that." -Jezebel Music 1/9/08

What I've Heard...
I've had the unique experience of being exposed to lots of great music in my lifetime. Some of my favorite albums were the debut releases of artists like Cold Play, U2, Norah Jones, Wilco, etc... and I add WHERE I BEGAN to that list. Most musicians take time to mature, develop, and grow into their own. Emily Mure hit the nail on the head with this, her first album. Every song conjures a new, deeper, emotion. The lyrics & melodies dance perfectly together to construct real-life stories of love, faith and pain. To quote one of Emily's new fans "Hearing Emily Mure play is like walking on the beach and finding a diamond"... I could not agree more.

Poetic lyrics, haunting voice
I saw Emily in Brooklyn at Bar 4 and couldn't wait to get the CD! She wrote, arranged and played several of the instruments including the oboe herself...incredible! The genre has glimmerings of folk but I bet her songs could adapt from coutry, folk to pop rock. Even in a venue that tends to be a bit noisy her voice and lyrics draws one in to hear the stories she tells and tune out the world. I look forward to hearing what's next! This is a singer/songwriter worth following to see what magic she summons!
