Ordering this today!
I must admit, I haven't listened to this whole album, just the samples online but I will be ordering this album TODAY because of those samples! As a lifelong video game addict, these songs are the songs of my childhood, many of my younger years lost to Castlevania, Mega Man, Chrono Trigger and more. Considering my favorite bands are metal bands like Metallica and Lamb of God, this is the culmination of metal and video games I've been waiting for!

While covering old-school video game theme songs has definitely been done before, it's very possible that it's never been done with this much precision, intensity, and attention to detail. Tidwell's an ace guitar player, and his mastery of these songs speaks both to his technical talent and his passion for the music he's reworking. These aren't just rough approximations of the originals, shredded through for the sake of novelty. These are meticulously crafted tracks that don't miss a single nuance of songs a lot of us still love and cherish. Also impressive are Tidwell's song choices. While Super Mario Bros. and Tetris are tackled here (as well as some other familiar themes), there's also more obscure titles like Chrono Trigger, and perhaps most random of all, DuckTales. This one's a must for any metal-loving gamer.

I honestly can't believe that I liked this so much! In fact, in some ways I can't even believe I like it at all? The very idea of video game soundtrack themes played in an instrumental power metal style? It just sounded too gimmicky. Well, I'm slapped stupid after hearing this! I can't quit spinning this gem! Every track is a lustrous nugget of solid and precious melodic metal. One of the best albums I purchased in 2010! Do it again Daniel :-D
