Album Notes
The Choral Festival has been held for the past seven years. Approximately 200 singers, Baha'is and Friends of Baha'is, gather to present two Devotional programs of varied a cappella music from classical to gospel in the House of Worship. The first few days are spent understanding, rehearsing and perfecting the music for presentation to approximately 1,500 attendees from the greater Chicago area.

The choir included many singers with little prior experience. Since singers are not required to be able to read music, much of the music had to be taught by alternate methods, such as streaming rehearsals online, making parts available as digital audio files, sending written music, and much prayer and encouragement.
The singers ranged from highly trained musicians to those who grew up singing in their
churches with no formal singing training. The group represented diversity in so many
ways! Young and old, Black and White, European, African and Asian, from different
economic backgrounds and with different physical challenges. Many of the participants
had never sung together before. Our bond was our getting to know each other as we
learned and refined these sacred songs. The songs this year seemed to be more personal
in that they spoke from the perspective of one recognizing and calling on God, the
Sufficer, the Helper, the All-Merciful. The Devotional Readings which are included on
this CD are taken from the Baha’i sacred Writings as well as sacred writings from the
old and new testaments of the Bible and from the Quran.
