The Paul Delay Band

The late Paul deLay (1952-2007) is a legendary figure among blues aficionados and musicians—harmonica players in particular. His work on the chromatic and diatonic harp was exuberant and completely original. Likewise, deLay’s songwriting and singing were exciting and free of cliche. In the mid to late 1990’s, the Paul deLay Band released a series of three ground breaking CDs on the Evidence label. Those critically-acclaimed albums (currently out of print) featured Paul with a group of NW all-star musicians capable of helping him push blues into new territory.

Arguably that band’s sound—combining classic Chicago blues with elements of jazz, funk, gospel, and more—was ahead of its time. Which makes the recent discovery of the band’s 1997 performance at the Notodden Blues Festival so exciting. Now a new generation of music fans can discover this unique artist, while deLay’s old fans can relish hearing new renditions of their favorite Paul deLay Band songs (plus some classic Paul stage patter) performed in front of an ecstatic Norwegian audience!
