As a child I had piano lessons but struggled with the classical music I was taught to play, it didn't really resonate with me very much although I enjoyed the sound of the harmonies of certain chords and the joy of playing at thunder and lightning with the very low notes and the very high notes and listening to the sounds die away. It wasn't until Motown/Santana came along in the early 70's that music spoke to me in a profound way. I joined various cover bands and toured the European American bases playing keyboards and percussion. A short stint with Johnny Johnson And The Bandwagon (Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache) killed the fun of touring. I continued my love of music at home on solo piano picking up various restaurant/hotel jobs. I started to compose my own music for solo piano as the age of software recording hadn't arrived yet. When it did I realised I could complete a full arrangement of my own music playing all the parts. It was a revelation and I never looked back. A big influence came in the early 90's in the shape of the Cafe Del Mar series as instrumental music for it's own sake began to make inroads into the world musical conciousness, where music didn't have to be a "song" but could stand alone as an instrumental piece. But the difference was it was music not wholly played on traditional instruments but introduced electronica into the mix, with all sorts of wonderful sounds and delays that conjured up musical landscapes and exotic worlds of sound. I was well and truly hooked. To me it was almost like a new begining for music. Those early sessions of thunder and lightening made sense. I was searching for sounscapes that painted pictures and the selections I was hearing on the CDM comps had this quality in abundance. It wasn't until 2006 that I was in a position to dedicate my life to the pursuit of my dream but when the chance came along I grasped it wholeheartedly. My first release was in 2006 and I've made up for lost time ever since. I have now released 27 albums and appeared on over 2000 compilations. I have also collaborated with Charlie North and released "Secrets Like These" and "Messenger" as "The Charlie North Michael e Project"
