About a Soul

About a Soul: On roots

Folk is not just a musical genre, it is a way of expressing a lifestyle. From the songs about the country routine, the sorrows and the happinesses of present and past loves, or in protest form, folk is closely linked to the roots, be it family or friendship. And it was with the idea of rescuing this scarce culture at the time when, in 2012, Renan Mantovani, 28, and Lucas Macedo, 27, began to glimpse what were the first moments of About a Soul, band today that stands out for the intimate sound And full of personality.

About the Soul is: Renan (drummer), Lucas (voice and guitar), Henrique Leme, 27 (guitar), Thierri Bispo, 28 (bass) and Diego Ferreira, 30. With shows all over the country, participation in awards such as EDP Live Bands and international recognition.

It all started in 2012, when the setting for the folk market was very favorable. The source came mainly from City and Colour, but other bands helped make up the sound of the group, such as Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters in Men, Damien Rice, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Jack White and Ben Howard.

The rehearsals began at the Macedo's house, with the first formation. Although they knew what they wanted, they were still defining the format and style of the group. Over time, the bonding came naturally.

In 2013, with the group already aligned, About would become a tree ready to bear fruit. The first single was "Walking in My Shoes". The second single was "The Valley," a romantic song that expresses the heart of a traveler by leaving the loved one waiting. The sentimental side continues in "O' Sailor" and "Blackstone Run", both give About's tone.

The first album was released on June 20th of the same year, intitled "The Legend Of Seas". Awaited by the fans, since the proposal was new both in the region and in the country, the debut compilation was a success.

Soon after the release, the first signs that the band was on the right track have already appeared. The first was the participation of Teco Martins (Rancore and Sala Espacial) in the song "Cottons Fields". Then Converse Rubber Tracks showed interest in recording "Heart and Soul", song of the band. One of the biggest recognitions that sound was approved and had identity.

A big family

One of the secrets for the group to work out almost five years ago is that About a Soul is a great family. The relationship between members, from the musicians to the stage production team, is like a family nucleus. Who joins the group, joins a family. And this mood is always present in the band's performances. Among the largest in the group is a participation in Virada Cultural (2014) and in EDP Live Bands in 2016, where About was among the eight finalists, competing with more than 1,500 bands from all over Brazil. The presentation of the finalists was nothing more, nothing less, than on the stage of UNIBES Cultural in São Paulo.

Apart from these achievements, the band has already toured in various parts of Brazil, such as in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, passing the SESC Barra Mansa stage at the CSN Cultural Center in Volta Redonda and lately performed an acoustic tour in Portugal, 3 FNACs. Much of the mileage is traced aboard Judite, a fully equipped and cozy Kombi 77 for long group travels.

The next big fruit of About a Soul is the second album, Give Me Something Real, scheduled for march of 2017. In this new work, the intimate personality must remain, as well as the deeper roots in the folk tradition.
